Skillet Taco Pizza

 Ingredients:

For the Pizza Dough:

  • 1 pound (about 2 cups) pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • Flour (for dusting)

For the Taco Meat:

  • 1 pound ground beef (or ground turkey or chicken)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet (about 2 tablespoons) taco seasoning mix
  • 1/2 cup water

For the Pizza Toppings:

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1/4 cup sliced green onions
  • 1/4 cup sliced jalapeños (optional)
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • Sour cream and salsa (for serving)

Instructions:

  1. Preheat your oven to 475°F (245°C).

  2. In a large ovenproof skillet (cast iron works great), heat a drizzle of oil over medium-high heat. Add the chopped onion and garlic, and sauté for 2-3 minutes until they begin to soften.

  3. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spatula, until it's browned and cooked through. Drain any excess fat if necessary.

  4. Stir in the taco seasoning mix and 1/2 cup of water. Simmer for a few minutes until the mixture thickens and the flavors meld. Remove the skillet from heat and set aside.

  5. While the taco meat is cooking, lightly dust a clean surface with flour and roll out the pizza dough into a circle that fits the size of your skillet.

  6. Once the taco meat is ready, place the pizza dough in the skillet, making sure it covers the bottom and slightly comes up the sides.

  7. Sprinkle half of the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheese over the pizza dough.

  8. Spoon the cooked taco meat evenly over the cheese layer.

  9. Sprinkle the remaining shredded cheese on top of the taco meat.

  10. Distribute the diced tomatoes, sliced black olives, sliced green onions, and sliced jalapeños (if using) over the cheese.

  11. Transfer the skillet to the preheated oven and bake for about 15-20 minutes or until the pizza crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.

  12. Once the taco pizza is done, carefully remove the skillet from the oven using oven mitts.

  13. Sprinkle the chopped cilantro over the top of the pizza.

  14. Slice your Skillet Taco Pizza into wedges, serve hot, and enjoy!

  15. Serve with sour cream and salsa on the side for dipping or drizzling.
